It\u2019s also about putting on your \u2018skeptic hat\u2019 and really asking whether you can believe your eyes, as trusted companies and key figures in XR dropped a few doozies yesterday that are so great <em>they\u2019re terrible<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Virtual Boy Pro\u2019 MR Headset<\/h3>\n<p>Nintendo actually teamed up with <em>IGN\u00a0<\/em>to poke some serious fun at the biggest XR companies out there\u2014but also apparently anyone who wanted the Japanese gaming giant to poke their heads back into the medium since it last released its Nintendo Labo VR kit in 2019, which brought not only a few fun VR mini-games to Switch, but also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/super-mario-odyssey-zelda-breath-wild-switch-vr-labo-kit-support\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">VR support for a number of Switch titles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"360\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6vCOJmBcyEU?feature=oembed\" title=\"Virtual Boy Pro for Nintendo Switch - Announcement Trailer (2024)\" width=\"640\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While the so-called \u2018Virtual Boy Pro\u2019 has seemingly better ergonomics than its 1995-era namesake, it still looks pretty dang front-heavy. Just the same, here\u2019s the main copy from the fake reveal video, seen above: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Virtual Boy Pro turns the world around you into a new level from Nintendo\u2019s most beloved video game properties. Virtual Boy Pro transforms any environment into an interactive level, allowing Mario and friends to interact seamlessly with your physical surroundings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nintendo and <em>IGN\u00a0<\/em>promised Virtual Boy Pro players could also play augmented reality versions of\u00a0<em>The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild <\/em>and\u00a0<em>The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,\u00a0<\/em>as well as fictional games\u00a0<em>Link\u2019s Korok Catcher,<\/em>\u00a0<em>Animal Crossing: Moving Day,\u00a0<\/em>and <em>Luigi\u2019s Mansion 4.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Not only that, but Virtual Boy Pro was said to transform supported vacuum cleaner models by Dyson, Oreck, Shark or Bissell into <em>Luigi\u2019s Poltergust 3000<\/em>, \u201ccreating a seamless integration between virtual ghost hunting and real-world housekeeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If it wasn\u2019t obvious by now, Virtual Boy Pro also promised to actually <strong><em>let you drive<\/em> <\/strong>while playing fictional game\u00a0<em>Mario Kart: Open Road,\u00a0<\/em>which would \u201ctransform your daily commute to work into a 200cc Grand Prix race down Rainbow Road.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Walkabout Mini Golf\u2019 Legs Update<\/h3>\n<p><em>Walkabout Mini Golf\u00a0<\/em>is one of the bigger VR success stories, as the game has found solid footing among fans, letting developers Mighty Coconut attract some high-profile partnerships over the years to really flush out its paid DLC courses to include everything from the original <em>MYST\u00a0<\/em>map to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/vrs-favorite-mini-golf-game-is-getting-a-wallace-gromit-course-this-summer\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wallace &#038; Gromit course coming soon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But what is really missing from the hit indie putt-putt golf game? While the highly-rated paid app has done very well on PC VR platforms as well as Quest, staying relevant as Meta ostensibly replicates a lot of your functionality has presented Godin with a constant battle to stay one step ahead of Quest\u2019s baked-in functionality Air Link, which lets you stream PC VR games to Quest over Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>When we heard he was making the move to Meta Reality Labs, it was basically like hearing Canada was dissolving its border with the US\u2014and of course being polite enough not to ask for a star on the flag while they were at it.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-dnt=\"true\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Tomorrow I\u2019ll be starting a full time position at Meta Reality Labs! Can\u2019t wait!\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><em>Pillow\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0New Toilet Mode<\/h3>\n<p><em>Pillow<\/em> is a mixed reality app from serial inventor and XR designer Lucas Rizzotto. The app is meant to be used laying down so you can do a host of relaxing things like transform your ceiling into an interactive night sky and unwind to rhythm-based breath-tracked meditations.<\/p>\n<p>Rizzotto announced a new \u2018toilet mod\u2019 was coming to <em>Pillow,\u00a0<\/em>which admittedly is the second most comfortable place in your home.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oceanwp-oembed-wrap clr\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today I\u2019m changing the game once again.<\/p>\n<p>I&#39;m launching the first XR app entirely designed for your toilet. \ud83d\udebd<\/p>\n<p>Introducing PILLOW\u2019s new \u201cToilet Mode\u201d &#8211; available today. \ud83e\uddfb<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QFkdiCbxqM\">https:\/\/t.co\/QFkdiCbxqM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Lucas Rizzotto (@_LucasRizzotto) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_LucasRizzotto\/status\/1774905760008532195?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 1, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Not only does the fake update let you use <em>Pillow\u00a0<\/em>in the toilet, but Rizzotto also teased the studio was announcing a new shower mode too, which would actually be pretty cool if the darn lenses didn\u2019t fog up so much.<\/p>\n<h3>Doki Doki Leahs<\/h3>\n<p>Indie adventure RPG <em>Dave the Diver (2023)\u00a0<\/em>isn\u2019t a VR game, but developer MINTROCKET announced it was coming out with its own fake DLC which would include a VR love simulator based on Dave\u2019s favorite anime idol, Leahs.<\/p>\n<p><p class=\"responsive-video-wrap clr\"><iframe title=\"\ud83d\udc95New VR game announcement trailer!
